Dr. Tobias. O. Okeno is a lecturer of Animal Breeding and Genomics at the Department of Animal Science, Egerton University. He is also the Technical Manager of the University Training and Research Farm. He holds a doctoral degree in Animal Breeding and Genomics from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Berlin, Germany.
He was a research postdoctoral fellow in Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Centre for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Aarhus University, Denmark. His research areas include development of breeding goals and design of breeding plans for different livestock species such as dairy cattle, poultry and pigs.
He teaches Population and Quantitative Genetics, Dairy production, Goat Production, Livestock Routine Management and Research Projects to the undergraduates. At postgraduate level, he teaches, Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources, Design of Breeding Plans and Scientific Writing. Dr. Okeno has authored 2 books and 47 peer reviewed research publications. He is consulting for several commercial dairy and pig farms in Kenya.
